Monthly bike related post…

I just sat down to write a blog post and realized it’s exactly one month since I last wrote, the 20th of September. New goal, one post per week.

Interbike was fun. Based on comments from those who attended in years prior, the amount of schwag was way down, and attributed to the slow economy. Some good things were had, most useful were soft flasks from the Hydrapak booth and lubricant samples from Dumonde Tech and Triflow. Got a pair of “Bad Motherfucker” socks from the SockGuy booth. Coolest booth goes to Knog which had an inflatable cube as their booth (a clear vinyl cube probably 25′ in dimension). The inside was darkened and decked out to mimic a disco with all their lights flashing and techno music playing. They had some pretty ridiculous dioramas made from their product as well, I wish I had photographed them. Lastly, always thankful for the supplement samples like goo, electrolyte mixes, etc. A BIG FAIL to Hammer Nutrition for their Perpetuem Solid chewable tablets. I ate one in a time of need and almost choked and died. Ok, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but it was like a 1″ piece of sidewalk chalk exploded in my mouth. Not sure what that’s like? Put six saltines in your mouth and try to eat and swallow them without drinking any liquids.

New Belgium’s Tour de Fat was awesome this year. They utilized the entire park and it lended a much more casual and relaxed feel with room to roam. We raised almost $90,000 for local bicycle related non profits including Tempe Bicycle Action Group, Bike Saviours, Mountain Bike Patrol and the Mountain Bike Association of Arizona. I dressed as Steve Zissou and took it one step further by decorating a cargo bike with a 4′ x 8′ coroplast version of the Jacqueline Deep Search submersible. You may have seen me, it was pretty ridiculous. Oddly, for as much as I was photographed, I haven’t shown up on Flickr yet. I’m sure the photos are all over Facebook, which one cannot search, FAIL. Here’s a picture, ignore the dorky dude standing next to me, he and his buddy were out taking photos for some lame ass Phoenix directory website.

In other news, work at The Bicycle Cellar is going well, in fact, it’s not like work at all, which is the first time I can say that about a job. I love my job, ha, haven’t said that one either. A big thanks to the customers that come in and buy my refurbished and consigned bikes from the used rack. Makes for good fun AND profit.

Today’s weather was beautiful. Overcast, drizzly and in the 70′s. I had a very nice bike ride up the Scottsdale greenbelt. Stopped in the middle of the ride to eat a clif bar and drink a PBR, odd combo, I know. I haven’t been riding as much as I’ve wanted lately, time to change that, especially with the weather taking a turn for the cooler side of things.

Until next time… keep the rubber side down and come out for a CRAP ride, the coolest ride in town. The image below has some outdated information, but the day and time is still the same…
